"Coloreds" just want a "wide screen TV in every room"?
Earlier this week the NAACP called on the Tea Party to reject the racism that exists within its own ranks. 1 Not surprisingly, Tea Party activists were outraged and denied that racism is a part of their movement — despite a clear, documented pattern of bigotry and hate. 2
Then yesterday, one of the Tea Party's biggest leaders proved the NAACP's point. Mark Williams, the public face of the Tea Party Express, attacked the NAACP as a "racist" organization, and said "they make more money off of race than any slave trader, ever." 3,4 He went on to write a blog post implying that Black people don't like to work or think for themselves, that we depend on welfare, and that we want to benefit from White people's tax dollars so we can have a widescreen TV in every room. 5 Sadly, we're not exaggerating.
If Tea Party leaders want to have any credibility on race, they need to start by kicking Mark Williams out of their movement. If they refuse, it will be clearer than ever that Tea Party leaders accept and rely on racism as an integral part of their approach to politics.
You can help us take the first step. Please join us in challenging Tea Party leaders to reject Williams' statements and remove him from his position at the Tea Party Express. And please ask your friends and family to do the same. It takes just a moment:

The NAACP was absolutely right in calling out the tea party, and we applaud them for doing so. The NAACP has a history of combating racism and seeking a more just country for all Americans, and their action was a demonstration of that commitment.
While some of us want to brush the Tea Party off as fringe, the reality is that they are attempting to build political power, and it's important that they not embrace the kind of racism that Mark Williams represents. Of course, if they choose to do so, then it's important to make clear to all Americans that they are a home for racism and bigotry.
The racism we've seen within the Tea Party movement is dangerous — it's the promotion of a hateful agenda under the guise of political empowerment. Forcing the hand of Tea Party leaders is important if we want to prevent bigotry and hate from driving mainstream political conversations, and worse, public policy.
If enough of us act together, we can force the Tea Party leaders to make a choice — to take real action to reject racism or to accept that the Tea Party will be rightfully seen as a movement that welcomes and benefits from the lowest forms of bigotry. You can help us make that happen by adding your voice below. It takes just a moment:

Denver Solicits Proposals for Housing, Neighborhood and Business Projects

Success story: Overhauled DPS school graduates 100 percent of senior class

After a difficult five-year transformation, Martin Luther King Jr. Early College
in northeast Denver finally has something to show for its work.
Sunday morning, 73 students graduated — 100 percent of the senior class.
It was the first graduating class since its overhaul. "It was a lot of long hours to
do everything we could to get each student to succeed and into college,"
said principal Allen Smith.
Five years ago, Denver Public Schools targeted the then-middle school, with a
reputation for underachievement, for reorganization to include sixth through
12th grades.
Now, the school boasts that all of its graduating seniors have
higher-education plans — 87 percent are accepted into four-year colleges,
Smith said.
One of those students is Tony Hoang, who this fall will attend
Colorado State University to study computer engineering.
"It's been really hard,"
Hoang said. "I let go and put myself into a hole, but just this February, I got
everything straightened out and decided I wanted to finish high school."
After long hours after school for tutoring, Hoang was able to graduate and
receive scholarships from CollegeInvest and CSU.
The senior class has been
offered about $966,000 in scholarships.
Oakwood Homes, a major builder in the
area, has contributed money to the school for the past five years.
The company's
nonprofit
Foundation for Educational Excellence also helped pay housing deposits
for students who couldn't pay to secure places at the schools where they were
admitted.
Akricia Joseph, class salutatorian, said she wouldn't have been able
to go to
school without help paying her deposit.
"I recommend if you want to be guided, this is a good school," she said. "I know I would not have applied early. . . . I would have waited until the
last minute, and things might be different."
Joseph plans to attend the University
of Tampa, with help from a $32,000 scholarship that she will receive over four
years.
The high school's first graduating class has given future classes something to
shoot for, Smith said. "I'm very excited now. They've set the standards a lot
higher," he said.

Hello Health!
Carnita Groves, MA, LPC, CAC-III, NCC
Shamae D. Matthews, RN, BS, ASN
Headaches have many causes and can impact memory, concentration, and mental stamina. Headaches may even be a function of an effective detox process! Not all headaches are created equal thus resolving them requires thoughtful intervention.
Just as some headaches can be fast acting, others develop over time. Headaches can be a result of bone structural issues and a chiropractor can help. Other sources include: chlorine; prolonged dehydration, various laundry/household cleaning products including bleach; fluoride; excess salt or refined sugars; chemicals in beauty salons vis-à-vis hair treatments, manicures, and pedicures; pharmaceutical medications—especially taking multiple meds; artificial food colors and flavors; petroleum based products; many sun screens, body lotions, antibacterial soaps, too much caffeine, odor sprays, and some cosmetics; and even waste that sits in the gut too long and is partially reabsorbed into the body.
An overwhelmed body cannot effectively rid itself of toxic overload. Toxicity can negatively impact brain neural functioning and neurotransmitter activity. These, in turn, affect thinking, which, of course, affects mood since moods are attached to thoughts and perception. Treating headaches by pain relievers alone may be inadequate. Identifying and correcting the source of the problem is key. Often times, lifestyle change is an excellent first step.
Carnita Groves is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Addictions Counselor level 3, and a National Certified Counselor in private practice in Denver, Co. Carnita can be reached at 303-698-0446; or e-mailed at: Sensurett@msn.com, or visit her website at www.AtwellandGroves.net.
